| So, Darren Aronofsky finally released a commentary for The Fountain:
Now if we could get Cuaron to jump on this bandwagon...
| Well, I have two weeks off now. Two weeks away from teaching and rehearsals and coming home sore and tired and... and...
Oh, man. I can sleep in.
I'd love to say that I have all sorts of plans ready for what I want to do now, but honestly, I've got nothing. I heard something about heading to D.C. (for what, I don't know), and there will probably be a nice, long visit with nature around Labor Day, but that's it. The rest of the time? Eating, sleeping, reading, watching movies (at home and at theater, hopefully), going out to eat a few times (I miss The Olive Garden) and... yeah, that's probably it.
(And "Shoot 'em Up" and "3:10 to Yuma" come out on the same day? Dangit.)
But the weather is nice again, or somewhat improved. The extreme temperature change isn't that great ("What? You were in the fifties four days ago? And it was chilly and rainy? Well, let's just crank that up to ninety-seven degrees with lots of sun and humidity! Happy now?") but it seems to have settled down for now.
Also, the week of rain that we had - as beneficial as it was - has brought out a fresh crop of mosquitos and other awful, biting insects, so it's not just those itty-bitty bug bites I'm dealing with, but those really big, swollen ones that take days and days to go away and until then it looks like someone whacked my knee with a baseball bat. Or at least a whiffle bat.
The downside to not working for two weeks is two weeks without a paycheck. Or actually a month without a paycheck, since I get paid every two weeks, so it won't be until I've been back for two weeks that I get another paycheck, and... ugh. But at least mom is working now, and she's pretty happy with the job, and the people there seem to be going out of their way to be nice and make her feel welcome, so that's good. And I hate to sound all money-centric and greedy, but the extra income is really helping out. I mean, you can only eat so many variations of eggs, cheese, and potatoes before you're half-tempted to give up on life.
And I'd like to get a little bit more of a tan before the year ends and we have to crawl back into our caves for the winter. Seeing as how it's August, and I could probably give someone else a tan just from the amount of sunlight that reflects off my own skin, it would be nice.
Man, this two weeks is going to go by really fast. I can tell.

| Mom got the Wal-Mart job.
All was well. | | |
| It became very clear over the last few weeks (months, years, whatever) that my mom would have to go back to work. And seeing as how we live in a rather rural area (Understatement Alert!!!) the closest place that she would have a chance getting a job at is Wal-Mart. So, a couple of weeks ago, she put in an application. Earlier this week they called her and asked her to come in for an interview. The interview went on for a couple of hours, and she had to go from meeting to meeting with every manager/associate-manager/department-manager the store employs. Then she had to take a drug test, and when the results from that come back, they say they'll call her in *again* so that they can actually look her in the eye and tell her she's hired. Now, if she is hired, she'll be starting out part-time (No surprise there. Most places like this prefer to start you out part-time.) and she'll be in the Men's Department, which my mom said will be infinitely better than the Women's Department, since "Women are pigs" when it comes to shopping. (Her quote, not mine.)
Anyway, here's hoping.
Onto weather: It sucks.
Onto work: Suckage
Onto movies: Rented "Bridge to Terabithia" and "The Constant Gardener" last week. "Bridge" killed me. I mean, good movie, but I felt like I'd gone through some kind of emotional endurance test at the end of it. "Constant Gardener" was very good, too, but I'd like to watch it again since it's a mix of flashbacks and reveals, but I didn't even get around to watching it until the day it was due back. Ergh.
Yesterday, rented "On a Clear Day" and "Ghost Rider". I'll knock those off this weekend if everything goes according to plan. (Great, now I'm going to have "Corpse Bride" playing in my head all night.)
And I still haven't seen "The Simpsons Movie", which is starting to bug me. And "Bourne" and "Rescue Dawn" come out tomorrow. And I'm thinking that "Death at a Funeral" might be a nice bit of late-summer entertainment. And it has Alan Tudyk in it, so a few extra brownie points there. Which could bring me to "3:10 to Yuma", but that one's already bursting with brownie points from Christian Bale and Russell Crowe.
And... Hmm, I think that's it. 'Til next week, I suppose.
| This is how desperate I am for good news:
Today, I finally paid off my braces. Too bad it only took me about ten years.
